The Hoyt 3115W-22-200uaDC-CAPI is a very high quality analog metering instrument. This is the very same meter that Hoyt uses to build a "true VU" meter when requested. The costs for a "true VU" are a little high these days due to the strict criterion that needs to be met in order to be called a "true VU". This meter is the "window mount" style and has an accuracy of +/-2%. It also features the typical Type A scale that reads "-20 to +3" on top of the arc and "0-100" on the bottom of the arc. The scale is printed on a buff dial background. I chose this meter as the size was basically identical to the Modutec meters that were used in my API console. I am happy (and unhappy!) to report that the ballistics of this Hoyt meter kick the pants off of the Modutecs used in my console. Not even close! ***Please note: This is a DC meter!! A typical four diode, bridge rectifier along with the proper series and shunt resistors are required to make it respond properly to AC. With the correct circuit, the meter will read zero VU or 100% with 1.228 volts of AC applied to series resistor. Here is a preview of the stereo 500 series module that we will be releasing soon here at Classic Audio Products of IL. I call it the VI522. This module will be an important part of the upcoming console project as well as a stand alone utility module for any 500 series rack. This module features the complete rectifier circuit being driven by a very high impedance IC buffer. The bonus is a full wave, precision peak detector circuit that is fully adjustable.
