This was my first attempt ever soldering a PCB. With some tips from an experienced friend, I dug in fully expecting this to be a $22 learning experience; I never expected it to actually work. I was shocked when it worked on my first attempt. I was even more shocked at HOW GOOD IT SOUNDS! Wow, what an improvement. The instructions were very clear, and I found a blog that had great photos of the building process too:

I'm using the GAR2520 in an ADK AP-1 mic pre. The stock opamp sounds dull by comparison. Tracks that I'm recording now sit up in the mix so much better, and you can overdrive it a little if you're not careful (or if you just want to). THIS is the sound I thought I should be getting all along with this preamp. I'm so impressed that I just bought the GAR1731 kit for comparison.
