The VP28 is not an easy build. Undertake this with a deep breath if you have not build CAPI preamps before. Its definitely worth starting with a VP26 or VP312 before you attempt this one. That said, the VP28 is as another reviewer has said, unbelievably versatile. It is very clean and neutral sounding and is especially good on crisp instruments like acoustic or overheads. My only criticism with CAPI preamps is that the faceplates are prone to losing their transfers so handle your faceplates delicately. I am personally not so keen on the VP28 on vocals. But if you want a 'modern' sounding preamp - the VP28 is much more akin to a say an API 512c than say the VP26. Its a fantastic sounding preamp. One of the best i've used. I don't mean in the CAPI range, I mean period. Matt
