The CA-0252 Discrete Opamp is a fully assembled, rigorously tested and potted discrete operational amplifier. The CA-0252 Discrete Opamp is the exact same circuit as found in our CA-0252-DIY Single Kit. The PCB is slightly smaller to fit in the potting shell. During the resizing of the PCB a few components got moved around. Besides that, I have the component difference listed below. For more component details, please visit the CA-0252-DIY Single Kit product page. Input transistors The kit version uses BC237C transistors. For the potted version we are using custom made BC414C transistors. Interstage NPNs The kit version uses custom made TIS97 transistors. For the potted version we are using new-old-stock Texas Instruments TIS97 transistors. We have enough stock to build just over 11,000 opamps so it should last us a while! Why are these potted? We are not potting these to hide what is inside. In fact you can see the guts in the comparison pic below. We wanted to have a more complete, finished and professional looking product. Also something that is easily distinguishable from the kit counterpart. The potting shell also makes for much easier handling for those less experienced in dealing with unpotted 2520 style opamps. Since we are potting these, we have chosen a thermally conductive silicone elastomer encapsulant that is somewhat soft (Shore A 60 durometer). This potting material is not rock hard like used in some other opamps so there are no issues with expansion and contraction. The thermal coupling properties are a bonus. The CA-0252 Discrete Opamp only ships with the longer terminal pins so there is no issue in a 2500 etc that may have other components under the opamp footprint. These longer pins impose no issues when used in a situation with no components under the amp. Just leave them long. If you have an old school situation where the amps are soldered directly to the PCB, just solder them in and cut the pins off. OEM and/or commercial use is prohibited. Meaning that we do not want manufacturers buying these to use in their gear without written consent from CAPI.
