The Big Red-DI Transformer is a high impedance, made in the USA instrument direct inject transformer. This custom made transformer is inspired by the ever sought after UTC A-11 but is not a recreation of it or any other previous transformer. During the time when our winder was having trouble sourcing laminations for our OG CA-11 DI transformer, he somehow had a fresh idea for a new design pop into his head. He told me it might be bad, it might be OK or it might rule. He sent me one to try and might I say, RULE it does! Simply put, the audio definition of phat is Big Red. Our Big Red-DI is potted in a steel can with a cadmium plated lid. We have a unique internal array of mu-foil covering different planes of the transformer. This mu-foil EMI shielding yields an approximate 28dBs of additional hum reduction. As a unique DI feature, we have brought out multiple secondary taps. Due to physics, this changes the impedance seen by the bass, guitar or whatever is plugged into the primary. When investigating a few homemade, vintage, pro studio direct boxes...we found the 31.5:1 ratio to be used for some absolute blissful magic. Primary Impedance: 50k ohms Secondary Impedance: 31.5:1 = 50 ohms, 10:1 = 500 ohms Instrument impedance into 1k ohms mic preamplifier: 31.5:1 = 1M ohms, 10:1 = 100k ohms Full kit bundles including the Big Red-DI can be found here
