So I bought all 4 plugins (still waiting for my Cinemag CM-DBXPC to arrive from Cinemag).
Firstly... These were all pretty simple straightforward builds. I bought the bundles.
Some things are small and close to each other, but nothing here posed a difficult challenge. I had a little issue with the Pikatron that Jeff helped me with via email no sweat.
My main purpose for purchase was for tracking Synths.. some old some new, and an occasional bass, or guitar. This review will cover all 3 using various keyboards I have yet to put a guitar or bass through them.
I built the IC1, and FET1 plug ins first... IC1 is crisp, clean, loud and proud. Noticeably louder than FET1, and Pikatron. FET1 adds some hair to sounds. In comparison to IC1 it has a rounder, slightly fuzzy character.
IC1 made everything sound better (louder is better right?) It has a slightly compressed sound that accentuates the attack so it always appears to be sharp, clear, transparent, and in your face while not being sterile at all.
Over time I noticed that whenever something was sharp to my ears through IC1, FET1 would sound more pleasing.
I thought FET1 would become my go-to for sounds needing some wooliness, but enter pikatron!!!
Firstly output level is SOOO much lower from the Pikatron vs the IC1, and FET1. Character wise it was lacking in clarity by comparison. Had a lot of character. Similiar to the FET1, but slightly more dimensional and a bit less harsh. I needed to bring up the level so I put it though my most transparent pre, and liked what I heard, but then had an idea! I would run my keys to a line level tube pre I bought off ebay and then through the Pikatron just to see what happened... Then MAGIC happened... The dimensional qualities exploded! It sounded HUGE a bit wooly for some cleaner pretty sounds, but then I tried an overdriven nasty patch.. Instant nirvana! This thing loves to be hit hard. It distorts, compresses, and does all sorts of gooey stuff. Very nice CAPI. Kudos.
All of the plugins are a hit. I'm sure they will all get used at some point, and I can't wait to hear the Cinemag. Definitely a better choice than the run of the mill choices that I was about to buy before I decided on the HZ51X and HiZ Plug Ins. Oh and they are all dead quiet producing no noticeable, or unpleasant noise of their own.
I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone needing a quick and easy solution with an awesome range of choices. 5 Stars!
